The Share Revolution: A Peek into Marketing’s Evolution

The marketing profession has significantly evolved over the past three years. The words viral, buzz and influencer are assigned different meanings as the population increased their time spent on the internet. Marketing campaigns are now increasingly shifting to non-traditional channels—some campaigns work, some were able generated buzz, but only a few have turned out actual business results.

In line with the culmination of the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards, The Institute of Transformative Marketing Communications brings you THE SHARE REVOLUTION: New Marketing Strategies in Building Brand Communities—a seminar/workshop on how to tap the power of community, dialogue and partnership from the insights and key learnings of six (6) speakers representing well-loved brands who have effectively integrated social marketing strategies into their marketing mix. Discover how new communication techniques can optimize your promotions with a simple concept called sharing.

The session will open with Juned Sonido, President of the Philippine Blog Awards, to deliver the Keynote Address with this year’s theme, One Blogging Nation in which he’ll give an overview of the blogging industry in the country, clarifying the nuances and distinct traits that make the community what it is today. You can also gather insights from some of our session share-experts on the following topics: BIGGER THAN YOURSELF: Energizing Brand Advocates through Social Relevance (GeiserMaclang Marketing Communications, Inc.), THE DNA OF VIRAL MARKETING: Inspiring Customer Engagement at the Heart of the Online Community (Krispy Kreme), THE COMMERCIAL YOU CAN TALK TO: Making your Advertising Come Alive through Digital Word-of-Mouth (Bayan Telecommunications), GETTING YOURSELF 2.0 READY: Jumpstarting new experiences in a participation economy (Globe Telecom).

The Share Revolution will be held at the Hampton Room, 2/F Astoria Plaza. Registration opens at 8am and session promptly starts at 8:30am. This initiative is through the partnership of GeiserMaclang Marketing Communications and the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards Board.

I JUST got an invite from Geiser Maclang the other day about their upcoming event, The Share Revolution http://www.thesharerevolution.com. Looking at their lineup of speakers made me ponder how social media allowed us to easily share content and updates with each other.

As both sender and recipient of shared information, the premise on viewing this information is anchored on trust. We personally know the person sharing the information with us. In addition to that, we relate to it and even get curious on the stuff that they are into.

This friendship, trust and reliance on everyday ordinary people, such as our favorite bloggers, has served as an anchor of a lot of campaigns brands are embracing today.

A lot of people relate to Bayan Telecommunications’ Lola Techie campaign. It encourages this age group to use technology and keep in touch with their loved ones both here and abroad.

My mom is gradually appreciating this technology as she now communicates with my sister, who is in Australia, via Skype.

Krispy Kreme celebrated its anniversary this year by inviting users to submit their photo and share their love for the product. Of course, this is not only unique to Krispy Kreme, a lot of companies are doing this as well.

This culture of sharing is also triggering the creation of new services like Yahoo! Meme http://meme.yahoo.com, where users can post interesting photos, videos and quotes, encouraging the community to share or pass it around.

So start sharing online and let yourself be known as a resource of interesting stuff.
